Ensenada Carrizal Anchorage (Manzanillo)

19° 5.3′ N · 104° 26.6′ W · approximate

A tiny, steep-sided cove on the Juluapan peninsula just northwest of Manzanillo, ringed by sheer, jungle-covered hills and a few palapas on stilts - the quiet alternative to the busy Santiago and Las Hadas anchorages.

Practical

Position approximate: placed in the water just southeast of GeoNames' Punta El Carrizal (19.0915 N 104.4482 W) on the outer side of the Juluapan peninsula; no published anchor waypoint was found, so confirm the cove on your chart and sound your way in. Latitude 38 reader reports describe it as a 'pristine cove just north of Manzanillo' that held about six cruising boats (2016), and one group spent five days including New Year's Eve here before moving on to Santiago Bay (2008). It is small, so arrive early in season. Likely open to the south and southwest: leave if a southerly swell or tropical system is forecast. No services ashore; provision in Santiago or Manzanillo.

Best for

A quiet, scenic cove with snorkeling a few miles from Manzanillo's shops

Season
