La Boquita Wreck Snorkel (San Luciano)
19° 6.4′ N · 104° 23.8′ W
The skeleton of the 300 ft steel freighter San Luciano, sunk in a 1959 hurricane at the west end of Playa La Boquita — now an artificial reef thick with fish, its broken mast stumps used as perches by frigatebirds.
Practical
Position from OpenStreetMap (Arrecife Artificial Buque San Luciano). Shallow enough that parts break the surface; snorkel from the anchorage or by dinghy in calm conditions. Visibility about 20 ft on a good day after red tide (2011); much less during blooms. Tour pangas also use it — keep a lookout. Watch the current around the wreck and do not touch rusted steel.
Best for
Snorkeling a sunken freighter from your own anchorage
