Coromuel Wind
24° 10.8′ N · 110° 19.8′ W · approximate
La Paz's signature wind: a cool S-SW breeze that switches on suddenly in late afternoon or evening on spring and summer nights and blows until mid-morning - pleasant in town, miserable in a south-open anchorage.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: a point in the Bay of La Paz representing the area. Wikipedia: south to south-west, mainly late spring and summer, begins late afternoon or early evening and blows through the night to mid-morning, can be very strong in the Bay of La Paz; caused by cool Pacific air drawn across the low isthmus toward the warmer Gulf. A La Paz cruiser measured about 20 kn at Ensenada Grande. Anchorages exposed to it: Bahía Falsa, Caleta Partida (even the north lobe), El Candelero and the La Paz waterfront. Better shelter: the south lobe and south notch of Ensenada Grande (only when the wind is truly SW), El Portico on the east side of Partida, the south lobe of Balandra (day only now), and Bonanza when it blows west.
