El Mogote Peninsula

24° 10.0′ N · 110° 20.0′ W

The long, low sand-and-mangrove peninsula that encloses La Paz harbor - its sandbar shapes the channels, shelters the anchorage from the bay, and its outer shore is where the whale sharks feed.

Practical

Position: Manglar El Mogote in OpenStreetMap. Club Cruceros: anchor on the Mogote side only after crossing the sandbar at the connecting channel; a cross stands on the east end (the sunken boat Beyond lies about 50 m off it at 24°09.950'N 110°19.643'W) and a dock on the west end (Tabasco II wreck about 200 m SW of it). Its north shore faces the whale shark refuge zone, which private boats may not enter. Mangroves are protected; land a dinghy on the harbor-side beach.
