Chimo Dive Site (Las Iglesias)
20° 29.9′ N · 105° 29.6′ W
Rock pillars called 'Las Iglesias' rise from deep water like cathedral columns on the remote southwest shore of the bay, with corals found nowhere else around Puerto Vallarta, big schools of fish and frequent manta rays.
Practical
Coordinate is PADI's dive-site position for Chimo (20.49778, -105.49416), which lies off Playa Pizota. The village of Chimo itself is about 10 km farther west (GeoNames 20.47281, -105.59309), so confirm the actual drop point with your operator. Rock formations and reef start around 30 ft and drop past 200 ft (PADI). Currents are present, so it is recommended for experienced divers. It is about 90 minutes by dive boat from Marina Vallarta (Ecotours, 2 tanks USD 170, no year stated, verify locally). No documented yacht anchorage at Chimo was found; treat it as a dive-boat site or a calm-day stop from the Yelapa moorings.
Best for
