Chacala Volcano Crater Hike
21° 9.3′ N · 105° 13.4′ W · approximate
A jungle trail from the village up to the rim of a small collapsed volcano behind the south end of the bay, with a panoramic view of the crater and Chacala Bay.
Practical
The trail climbs through lush forest full of birdsong. Ask in the village or at Mar de Jade for the trailhead, since none is published online. Carry water and go early or late in the day. The rainforest on the volcano's flanks is home to ocelot, margay and jaguarundi (Wikipedia). Coordinate is approximate, south of the Mar de Jade property (OpenStreetMap), and the crater rim location is not mapped.
