Balandra Mangroves by Kayak
24° 19.2′ N · 110° 19.1′ W
Paddle the shallow turquoise lagoon of Balandra and the mangrove channels at its back - best at sunrise or sunset before the tour pangas and day-trippers arrive.
Practical
Position: centre of the 'Manglar Puerto Balandra' tidal mangrove polygon in OpenStreetMap (a second mangrove stand lies just south). Inside the Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna Balandra (2015). Baja by Sea recommends kayak or paddleboard rides at sunrise or sunset; Go La Paz shows kayaking at Playa Balandra and says La Paz routes run 'from mangrove swamps to bays with virgin beaches'. Rules reported since 2022: no overnight stays for any vessel; boats under 12 m may only tour to the mushroom rock; dinghies may land on the north beach - so launch kayaks or the dinghy from a daytime stop, stay on the water in the mangroves (do not land in or cut through them) and watch the falling tide in the shallow lagoon. Kayak and SUP rentals operate from the beach - prices verify locally.
