El Hongo (Mushroom Rock, Balandra)

Balandra's balanced mushroom-shaped rock is the symbol of La Paz - an eroded sandstone pedestal at the edge of the turquoise lagoon.
Practical
Position: OpenStreetMap node 'El Hongo De Balandra' (tourism=attraction), on the south shore of the bay's inner lagoon. Since 2022 boats under 12 m may only tour past it by water - no landing on the mushroom beach. The rock broke years ago and was repaired with rebar and cement. Hiking trails from the park give viewpoints over the lagoon.
