Bahía Tangolunda

15° 46.1′ N · 96° 5.5′ W

The resort bay of Huatulco, ringed by large hotels and open to the Pacific swell, with warm clear water and fish around the rocks; the usual jumping-off point for the Gulf of Tehuantepec.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap centroid of the Bahía de Tangolunda. Several anchoring options; Roads Less Traveled found the east end had less swell and less resort noise than the west end (2012), though overnight roll can get bad enough to send you to the next bay. Daytime jet skis, banana boats, catamarans and kayaks. Practical Sailor (2025): check out with the Port Captain in Santa Cruz, then stage here; beach the dinghy behind the breakwater and walk about 15 minutes to the road for taxis. Roads Less Traveled arrived here at 2:30am after a westbound crossing from Chiapas.
