A calm mangrove lagoon behind Vieux-Fort beach, explored by pedal boat, canoe or electric boat, with a boardwalk to an ornithological hide where birds return to roost in the late afternoon and Molokoy tortoises splash in the shallows.

AAEA-CISMAG Vieux-Fort nautical base, facing Vieux-Fort beach: 1-hour return trips Tue-Sat 9:30am-4pm (last departure 3pm), EUR 10 adult, EUR 8 child under 12; tel 0590 97 13 72 / 0690 34 62 98 (tourist office). The river-mouth marsh is the subject of a restoration project (2026).
