Rendezvous Bay Wall & Bat Cave Dive

16° 48.6′ N · 62° 12.5′ W · approximate

Montserrat's signature boat dive beside its only white-sand beach: a shallow and deep reef-and-wall profile with sea fans and barrel sponges that ends at a cave sheltering bats.

Practical

Position approximate, in the water off Rendezvous Bay Beach (16.8101N 62.2054W, as mapped in this file). PADI's Montserrat guide names Rendezvous Bay among the island's most popular dives, with a shallow and a deep section ending at a cave home to at least ten species of bats. TripBase lists a wall to about 20 m (65 ft) with healthy hard and soft corals, sea fans and barrel sponges, and eagle rays and turtles along the wall edge; it also describes a swim-through cavern nicknamed 'Bat Cave' on an offshore pinnacle (to about 25 m, intermediate and above) without giving its location - ask the operator which they run. Short boat ride north from Little Bay with Scuba Montserrat (+1 664 496 7807). Yachts can anchor off Rendezvous in settled weather (see Rendezvous Bay Anchorage). Exposed to northerly swell in winter; 'Christmas winds' roughen leeward sites.
