Pinney's Beach Anchorage

17° 9.2′ N · 62° 38.0′ W

A NASPA mooring field off three miles of palm-backed sand between Charlestown and the Four Seasons - calm in the trades, with beach bars a dinghy ride away and Nevis Peak rising behind.

Practical

NASPA moorings run along the west coast from Oualie Beach to Charlestown; call NASPA on VHF 16 for an assigned mooring within 24 hours of arrival, and no one may use a mooring without NASPA authorisation (naspakn.com). Mooring classes: up to 35 ft, 36-60 ft, 61-90 ft; vessels over 90 ft anchor in a designated area. Rates are published only as an image on NASPA's fee page, with surcharges of +25% weekdays 4:01pm-7:59am and all day Saturday and +50% on Sundays and public holidays. User reports (verify locally): about US$30 a week in 2016; a 2024 Noonsite report of a quoted US$25/night and that NASPA removes the moorings in the off-season (not yet back in Oct 2024), with anchoring prohibited while they are in. Pay at the Port Authority in Charlestown. A 2016 visitor found the moorings well spaced with pendants in good condition and only a gentle swell with winds north or south of east; ferry wakes last 8-10 seconds by day and the ferries do not run at night; a north swell can creep in. Anchoring is frowned upon and charged the same as a mooring. The Moorings calls the anchorage off Pinney's Beach near the Four Seasons excellent, with good holding in sand. A marked no-wake swim zone runs several hundred feet off the beach. Land the dinghy on the beach (allowed by the Port Authority); most people beach at Sunshine's or the Double Deuce, about a mile from town - dinghy wheels help. Water spigot at Sunshine's by the toilets. Bus to town along the main road. noforeignland users rate it 4.2/5 but note weekend noise. Clear in at Charlestown first; port police patrol the fields by day.
