Dominica's 'Real Mas' - a carnival that keeps old traditions alive: sensay costumes, calypso tents, Lapo Kabwit drums at J'Ouvert and two days of street jump-up through Roseau on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.

Position approximate - central Roseau (Old Market area, OpenStreetMap). Street days: 2027 - 8 & 9 February; 2028 - 28 & 29 February (avirtualdominica). Discover Dominica gives the 2027 season as 9 January to 10 February. J'Ouvert on Carnival Monday from 4 am in Roseau. Calypso tents, queen shows and Panorama by de Bay run in the weeks before. Roseau gets crowded and loud - consider staying at Portsmouth and coming by road.
