Katouche Trail & Valley Hike

18° 12.7′ N · 63° 4.2′ W

A footpath down through Katouche Valley's dry tropical forest to the quiet beach at Katouche Bay, between Road Bay and Crocus Bay. Bats roost in Cavannagh Cave, a 30-foot cavern pierced by a fig tree, and the old Katouche Well lies along the way.

Practical

Coordinate is the Katouche Trail path (OpenStreetMap way 1373537483); Katouche Well is OSM node 12717292094 and Katouche Bay is way 200813957. Access has changed: recent reports describe 'No Trespassing' signs on land in the valley and that visitors need to book a guided trek, so check before going. Guided options: the Anguilla National Trust's Friday 'North Hill to Sandy Ground' hike (9am-11:30am, past sugar-plantation ruins, Cavannaugh Cave and Katouche Valley, ending with a jump into Road Bay; US$50 adult, US$20 child under 12, book 48 hours ahead; 2016 listing, verify locally) and the Four Seasons Katouche hiking and cave tour. Wear shoes that can get wet. From the water, Katouche Bay is a dinghy ride north of Road Bay with the cruising permit.
