Barbuda Hurricane Season
17° 38.4′ N · 61° 48.6′ W
Barbuda is low, flat limestone with no all-weather harbour, and hurricanes hit it hard. Luis (1995) and Irma (2017, which destroyed more than 90% of buildings) both struck in early September.
Practical
Coordinate verified: Wikipedia position for Barbuda. Season June-November; September has produced the most direct hits (Barbudaful). There is NO hurricane hole on Barbuda: the lagoon is too shallow for yachts and anchoring inside is not recommended. Leave for Antigua (English or Falmouth Harbour, Jolly Harbour, or a haul-out) or further south well ahead of any system. Ferries, fuel barges and flights stop in bad weather, and fuel can run out on the island. StormCarib is a useful local storm tracker, and Antigua Met Service forecasts are at 268weather.
