Anse du Gouverneur Anchorage
17° 53.0′ N · 62° 50.0′ W · approximate
A cliff-framed cove on the south coast with fine white sand and no beach clubs, often called the island's most beautiful beach - a day anchorage when the trades are north of east.
Practical
Position is mid-cove, derived from the OpenStreetMap bay position (approx). Anchor on the calmer western side of the cove and dinghy in; the beach shoals farther out than most of the island's beaches, so bring a chart and sound in (Sail Magazine). Sand bottom around 3 m with good holding reported by noforeignland users; other reports give 5-12 m outside. Wrapping swell can make it rolly, and surf is strong in an offshore south or south-east swell - day stop only in those conditions. No services; one snack bar in season. Santa Fe restaurant on the hill above has views to Saba and Statia (reach by taxi). See the South Swell Caveat entry for this bay.
