Waikiki Bight Anchorage

21° 16.2′ N · 157° 49.8′ W · approximate

A fair-weather lunch anchorage off Waikiki with Diamond Head and the hotel skyline as the backdrop, used by local boats when the south swell is small.

Practical

Approx GPS from Noodle's Notes (Nov 2024), which labels it approximate: 21-16.15N 157-49.85W. Depth 10-30 ft over hard pan with crevasses (poor holding; set carefully). Regulations prohibit anchoring within roughly half a mile of the beach and Noodle notes the restricted zone is easiest to see on current navigation charts, so anchor outside it; Coast Pilot describes the Waikiki Shore Water Restricted Zone as about 0.4 mile offshore and a separate special anchorage in Kapua Entrance about 0.9 mile south of Waikiki Beach (33 CFR 110.129b). No shore access from the anchorage. Day use only in practice; the 72-hour rule applies. Untenable in south swell.

Best for

Afternoon swim stop off Waikiki in calm conditions
