Waikiki Beach Waters (DOBOR zones)
21° 16.4′ N · 157° 49.7′ W
The state-managed ocean waters off Waikiki, a patchwork of surf, canoe and swim zones, a small-craft mooring area at Kapua Channel and a federal special anchorage further out.
Practical
Position is the state GIS anchorage point for Waikiki Beach Waters (public access). DOBOR: the area runs immediately offshore of Waikiki from Fort DeRussy to Diamond Head, also called the Kapua Channel Moorings, with temporary anchorage available; DOBOR's ocean zones map is at dlnr.hawaii.gov/dobor/maps. HAR 13-235-33: the Kapua Channel mooring area (by the Colony Surf groin) is limited to recreational sail and manually propelled craft under 22 ft and Hawaiian canoes up to 48 ft; motorized vessels are prohibited except one Outrigger Canoe Club rescue boat. Coast Pilot: the Waikiki Shore Water Restricted Zone extends about 0.4 mile offshore and boating there needs a DOT Harbors permit; a special anchorage lies in Kapua Entrance about 0.9 mile south of Waikiki Beach (33 CFR 110.1 and 110.129b). DOBOR (808) 587-1966.
