Manele Bay Anchorage

20° 44.3′ N · 156° 52.9′ W · approximate

A deep open roadstead off the mouth of Manele Bay, the fallback for yachts that cannot get a berth inside the harbor.

Practical

Coast Pilot 10: a lighted buoy is off the entrance; a low rock, over which the sea usually breaks, lies 300 yards seaward of the east entrance point (Kalaeokahano Point); small local vessels have anchored in about 14 fathoms (84 ft) roughly 350 yards southwest of that rock. Coordinate is approx, derived from that description and the GNIS position of Kalaeokahano Point. Deep and exposed to the south; squalls drop off the cliffs and are more pronounced in Manele Bay than in Hulopoe Bay. Manele Bay lies inside the Manele-Hulopoe Marine Life Conservation District, so anchor only on sand, never on coral, and observe MLCD take rules. Hulopoe Bay next door is closed to anchoring by power-driven vessels.

Best for

A day stop when the harbor is full
