Hulopoe Tide Pools and Cliff Walk
20° 44.2′ N · 156° 53.6′ W
A short cliff-top walk from the east end of Hulopoe Beach past lava-shelf tide pools to the Puu Pehe overlook above Sharks Bay.
Practical
Go Hawaii: 15 to 20 minutes along the cliffs southeast of the tide pools to the Puu Pehe lookout; the tide pools hold hermit crabs, sea stars, opihi and small fish, best at low tide. Wear shoes on the lava, stay back from cliff edges and watch for shearwater burrows near the trail. Sharks Bay (the small cove inside Puu Pehe) is not safe for swimming (to-hawaii.com). The Hulopoe Heritage Trail and Fisherman's Trail continue along the coast (OSM).
Best for
An easy sunset walk from the harbor
Season
Best at low tide and late afternoon
