Kihei Anchorage (Charley Young Beach)

20° 43.4′ N · 156° 27.4′ W · approximate

Off central Kihei a large sand patch gives good holding for boats wanting to step ashore into Kihei's shops, beach bars and grocery stores; rolly, busy with paddlers, and with a tricky beach landing through the shorebreak.

Practical

Approx: placed about 0.3 nm off Charley Young Beach (OpenStreetMap shoreline); the Sea-Seek guide's own waypoint for this entry (20°46.77'N 156°28.15'W) lies about 3.5 nm farther north, so sound and look for sand before you drop. Sea-Seek: good holding in a big sand patch for many boats; do not anchor on coral; a little rolly; tricky to land at the beach; stay away if you cannot handle shorebreak or dislike paddlers around the boat. State rule: anchor only on sand, rock or rubble with no live coral, and not within 100 yards of a state day-use buoy (HAR 13-257-4). Land the dinghy at Cove Park or Kalama Park in calm conditions, or come in by the Kihei Boat Ramp. No fuel or water at Kihei.

Best for
