Kalama Park and Kihei Beaches

20° 43.9′ N · 156° 27.2′ W · approximate

Kihei's 6-mile beachfront is a chain of county parks: grassy Kalama Park with The Cove beginner surf break at its south end, then the three Kamaole beach parks (Kam I, II, III) with golden sand, lawns and sunset swimming.

Practical

Approx: Kalama Park centroid (OpenStreetMap). Kalama Park, 1910 South Kihei Road: courts, skatepark, pavilions, playground and parking; the nearshore bottom is shallow and rocky, so it is poor for swimming. The Cove (Cove Park, about 20.7278, -156.4497) has a gentle beginner break with board rentals and lessons, best early. Kamaole I is the largest, with restrooms, showers and lifeguard service per Maui County; lifeguard coverage at II and III is not confirmed. Dinghy landing at Cove Park works only in calm conditions; mornings are calmest before the trades and sea breeze build.
