Propane Refill and Exchange (Kihei)

20° 45.0′ N · 156° 27.4′ W · approximate

Where to get a boat's propane bottle filled or swapped on Maui's south side; there is no fill station at the Kihei ramp or Makena, so plan it with a shore run.

Practical

Approx: position is the Ace Hardware in Kihei (OpenStreetMap node 5574949135; OSM lists hours Mon to Sat 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Sun 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, verify locally). Ace Hardware stores generally offer 20 lb tank exchange and many fill tanks, but whether the Kihei store fills (rather than only exchanges) was not confirmed: call before carrying a bottle ashore, and note that an exchange swaps your tank, which will not suit a non-standard marine bottle. Hawaii Gas is Maui's propane utility: Maui, Molokai and Lanai line (808) 877-6557, offices 8:00 am to 4:00 pm; its FAQ says cylinder refills are scheduled within 10 working days of a customer's request, so ask early. Central Maui Propane (P.O. Box in Kihei, founded 2014) advertises scheduled pickup, filling and return of portable tanks and emergency after-hours refills; contact details were not publicly listed. U-Haul's Kihei-area listings show no propane fill (2026 check). Tanks past their requalification date may be refused.
