Kalepolepo Beach Park and Koieie Fishpond

20° 45.9′ N · 156° 27.5′ W · approximate

A small north Kihei park beside the restored Koieie loko ia, an ancient Hawaiian fishpond whose stone wall still encloses a shallow lagoon, next door to the humpback whale sanctuary office.

Practical

Approx: beach position from OpenStreetMap (way 308376244). Coast Pilot: a large old fishpond extends 0.2 mile from shore at Kalepolepo and local vessels anchor behind the reef in only 3-4 ft; the reef is widest here with a 14 ft spot 0.5 mile out, so keep offshore in a keelboat. Shallow, protected water inside the pond wall is good for small children. Dinghy only in calm conditions.
