Kaunolu Village Site
20° 44.1′ N · 156° 57.9′ W
The largest surviving ruins of a pre-contact Hawaiian village, straddling Kaunolu Gulch on Lanai's southern cliffs: house platforms, Halulu Heiau, petroglyphs and Kahekili's Leap.
Practical
Wikipedia: abandoned in the 1880s, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962; two villages, Kaunolu and Kealiakapu, on either side of the gulch. Reached overland by four-wheel drive from Lanai City (Go Hawaii), or viewed from the water off Kaunolu Bay. Treat it as a sacred site: do not move stones.
