Kahakuloa Head (Puu Koae)
21° 0.1′ N · 156° 32.7′ W
A dark, bare 634 ft cone on the headland west of Kahakuloa village, one of the most conspicuous landmarks on Maui for boats working the north coast between Nakalele Point and Kahului.
Practical
Deep water close to the head but numerous breakers and covered rocks just off it; a rock covered 4.5 ft, in 15 to 20 fathoms around it, is 0.4 mile off the head of the cove between Puu Koae and Mokeehia Island (Coast Pilot). Mokeehia Island, a 170 ft bare rock 1.4 miles southeast, is the next mark toward Kahului. No anchorage recommended on this coast.
Best for
Navigation mark on the north-coast run to Kahului
