Hilo International Airport (ITO)

19° 43.2′ N · 155° 2.9′ W

Hilo's airport, right behind Kuhio Bay and the harbor - the closest airport in the islands to a yacht in Hilo Bay, for crew changes and parts.

Practical

Mostly inter-island flights to Honolulu and Kahului. The airport aero light is visible far out to sea and is a good landmark on approach. The National Weather Service office is at the airport. The prevailing wind at the airport is not the trade but a southwest downslope wind off Mauna Loa at night and early morning (Coast Pilot).
