Fuel and Diesel in Hilo (Jerry Jug or Truck)

19° 43.4′ N · 155° 3.8′ W

Hilo has no yacht fuel dock: visiting boats carry diesel and gasoline in jerry jugs from road stations or arrange a truck delivery at the commercial piers. The nearest station to the harbor and Reeds Bay is the 76 on Kalanianaole Street.

Practical

Coordinate is the 76 station on Kalanianaole Street (OpenStreetMap), on the road between Radio Bay/Keaukaha and Banyan Drive - about 1 km from Reeds Bay. Other stations close to the water: Aloha Petroleum, 774 Kamehameha Avenue (OSM 19.72192, -155.07827), a short walk from the Wailoa River dinghy landing; Shell, 394 Kamehameha Avenue (OSM 19.72316, -155.08399, 24 hours). OSM does not record which pumps sell diesel - confirm at the station. Larger quantities: the Coast Pilot says gasoline and diesel are available at the state piers but all fuel is trucked in; arrange a truck delivery through the Port of Hilo (DOT Harbors, (808) 933-8850) since a transient yacht may only come alongside a commercial pier with DOT permission. Noodle's Notes cruisers (2014) jerry-jugged from road stations. Neither Wailoa Sampan Basin nor Reeds Bay lists a fuel dock (DLNR DOBOR facility pages). For a full tank alongside, Honokohau Harbor in Kona is the usual stop.
