Liliuokalani Gardens and Coconut Island (Mokuola)
19° 43.5′ N · 155° 4.2′ W
Edo-style Japanese gardens (1917-19) on the Waiakea peninsula - said to be the largest outside Japan - with a footbridge to little Coconut Island, Mokuola, the 'island of life' and site of an ancient healing temple.
Practical
Coordinate from to-hawaii's map of the gardens (Coconut Island itself is at 19.72957, -155.06869). 24 acres per Wikipedia, about 30 per to-hawaii: koi ponds, red bridges, stone lanterns and a teahouse. Coconut Island has picnic spots and limited swimming, plus the stone tower of the old footbridge the tsunami destroyed. A short dinghy ride from the breakwater anchorage; land at the Wailoa River or ask locally about landing at the park.
Best for
