Hakipuu Anchorage (Kaneohe Bay West End)
21° 30.2′ N · 157° 50.7′ W
A seldom-visited anchorage tucked into the north-west corner of Kaneohe Bay beneath Kualoa Ranch's fluted cliffs, with an inner pool where you can put the bow on the beach used in 50 First Dates. Mokolii (Chinaman's Hat) sits just to the north-east.
Practical
Outer anchorage waypoint from Noodle's Notes (approximate): 21-30.15N 157-50.75W; inner anchorage 21-30.31N 157-50.82W. Outer anchorage about 17 ft over mud, reached by weaving through reefs; the entrance is narrow and tricky, so make the first entry only in good light with the sun overhead and little cloud. Boats drawing less than 6 ft can cross the sand bar into the inner anchorage on a rising tide; the guide's entry range is a white-painted tree trunk on the beach lined up with the highest peak behind. The inner anchorage is not shown on current NOAA charts but is clear on satellite imagery. Ashore: walk north-east to Kualoa Regional Park and across the highway to the Kualoa Ranch store for grass-fed beef and produce; no other stores for miles. Bay-wide 72-hour anchoring limit applies. Tides: NOAA station Moku o Loe (1612480) on Coconut Island.
