Kapapa Island (Kaneohe Bay Barrier Reef)

21° 28.6′ N · 157° 47.9′ W

A small sand-and-rubble islet perched on Kaneohe Bay's barrier reef in the middle of the bay, one of the landmarks used to identify the bay from seaward.

Practical

Position from OpenStreetMap (islet relation). Coast Pilot: about 2.8 miles south-east of Kualoa Point in the center of the bay; with Mokolii and mushroom-shaped Kekepa (Turtleback Rock, 21.4619,-157.7756) it is easy to identify from seaward but makes a poor landfall. Slow-no-wake within 200 ft of Kapapa Island (HAR 13-256-73). Reef surrounds it; approach only by dinghy or kayak in calm water and good light.
