Vathi (Methana)

37° 35.6′ N · 23° 20.3′ E · approximate

A wonderful little fishing port on the west coast of Methana, all fish tavernas and fishing boats, and the best base for the volcano and the Mycenaean acropolis. SailingIssues calls it ideal for escaping the rest of the sailing community.

Practical

Coordinate is approx: set in the basin just inside the OSM breakwater (37.59327N 23.33813E). SailingIssues: good protection against the prevailing gusts from NNE-E; untenable in strong south-westerlies (rare in summer); mostly good holding in mud and weed; you can take a line ashore on the north-west side. mySea: depth 2-4.6 m; stern-to at the south-east quay or at the breakwater; holding moderate in sand, mud and weed; electricity, fuel and water listed. Tavernas: Jimmy's fish taverna on the waterfront (SailingIssues: one of the best restaurants on the peninsula), Athina Meletis, Theoni, Afena and the Skipper cafe (OpenStreetMap). Walks start here to Megalochori (about 35 minutes each way) and to the volcano.
