Vasiliki Windsurf Bay

38° 37.4′ N · 20° 35.9′ E

One of Europe's best-known windsurfing bays: a thermal wind nicknamed "Eric" fills in every summer afternoon and over a hundred boards can be out at once.

Practical

Wikipedia: the local thermal wind rises in the afternoon as the land heats; several holiday companies rent windsurfing, dinghy and catamaran gear and run courses. Sailingissues.com warns the same mistral (NW) produces dangerous gusts in the bay. For yachts this means: arrive or leave Vasiliki in the morning, and keep clear of the beach-launched fleets off the western shore. The Wildwind sailing centre in Vasiliki hosts the annual Ionian Regatta in mid-September.
