St Nicholas Bay Anchorage & Pier (Vasilikos)

37° 43.6′ N · 20° 59.5′ E · approximate

The bay at Agios Nikolaos (St Nicholas) beach on the east side of the Vasilikos peninsula, tucked south of the small chapel headland, with a floating pier, a dive centre and beach bars ashore. A handy lunch or overnight stop outside the marine park, about 7 nm from Zakynthos town.

Practical

Coordinate is in the water off St. Nicholas Beach, south of the chapel headland, derived from the OpenStreetMap coastline and pier (approximate); the floating pier runs from 37.7282, 20.9904 to 37.7277, 20.9913 (OpenStreetMap). OSM describes the beach as sand and small pebbles with shallow water, sunbed and boat rental. No cruising guide gives depths, holding or fees for this bay: sound in, and treat it like Porto Roma (SailingIssues): reasonable in the prevailing NW, open to E and SE. The floating pier belongs to the beach businesses (St. Nicholas Beach Watersports & Diving, tel +30 26950 35324, mobile +30 693 7107652) and is busy with water-sports boats, jet skis, banana rides and parasailing in summer (Wikivoyage), so ask before landing a dinghy and anchor well clear of the swimming and towing lanes. A free shuttle bus brings beach visitors from Laganas, Kalamaki and Argasi in the late morning and takes them back at 5pm (low season) or 6pm (high season) (zakynthoswatersports.gr), so the bay is quietest early and late. Ashore: Koukis, Punta Basta and the St Nicolas Beach Club bars and restaurants on the beach, Taverna Familia, Village Inn and Mesala behind it, and two supermarkets within 300 m (OpenStreetMap). This is outside the marine park's nesting-beach zones, which start south-west of Cape Geraki.
