Spilia Swimming Rocks

37° 21.1′ N · 23° 27.8′ E

Hydra's town swimming spot: cemented rocks and ladders below the western bastion's cannons, dropping straight into deep blue water — locals show off by diving off the cliffs.

Practical

OSM node 'Σπηλιά'. A 5–10 minute walk west of the harbour (just past the large cafe-bar, Hydronetta). Not a beach: climb in and out by ladders in the sea wall — beware sea urchins on the wall. Deep water and good visibility; several dive spots. Avlaki pebble beach is just beyond, down a staircase. Boat wash from the harbour entrance can surge onto the rocks; don't swim across the harbour approach. Cliff-diving is for those who know the depth.

Best for

Quick deep-water swim from the town quay
