Hydra Donkey Transport & Water Taxis
37° 21.0′ N · 23° 28.0′ E · approximate
With all wheeled vehicles banned, Hydra moves by donkey, mule and water taxi — the taxi boats gather on the east side of the harbour and the donkey trains wait at its centre.
Practical
Coordinate approx: harbour centre by the ferry dock (OSM). Water taxis run 24 hours and connect town with Kamini, Vlychos, Mandraki, the west-coast beaches and Metochi on the mainland. A fixed-fare board (in Greek) is posted at the rank — Wikivoyage reported fares from about €9 to Kamini to €120 for a round-island trip (verify locally). Donkeys and mules carry luggage, provisions and gas bottles up the stepped lanes — negotiate at the quay. A daily round-island excursion boat leaves the main port at 11 am. Mind the water-taxi wash when on the quay.
Best for
Getting crew, luggage and heavy provisions around a car-free island
