Russian Bay (Poros)

37° 31.1′ N · 23° 26.1′ E

A pretty bay on the west tip of Kalavria behind the islet of Daskalio, with its white chapel, the ruins of the 19th-century Russian naval dockyard on the beach and a beach bar. It is the classic first anchorage out of Poros town.

Practical

SailingIssues marker 37.51774N 23.43440E (OpenSeaMap 'Russian Bay' anchorage symbol at 37.51814N 23.4333E). A reef ('precarious') extends from the Daskalio side: anchor near the east beach or in the northern bight, avoid the weedy patches, and take a line to the rocks. Good holding off the sand. Noonsite user (2017): people anchor randomly and limit space; best to tie to the north wall and tuck in about 50 m from the beach, or to the opposite wall. Ten minutes by boat from town. Russian Bay Beach Bar ashore (OpenStreetMap). Marvellous early or late in the season; crowded with day boats in July-August.
