Parga Venetian Castle
39° 17.0′ N · 20° 23.9′ E
The Venetian fortress on the headland between Parga town and Valtos Bay, rebuilt for the last time in 1572 and never taken until Ali Pasha bought Parga in 1819. Look for the winged lion of St Mark over the gate; the walls give the best view of the town, the islet and Valtos.
Practical
Wikipedia: first built in the 11th century, rebuilt by the Venetians, burned by Barbarossa in 1537, and rebuilt again in 1572. Ali Pasha added a hammam and harem quarters. The gate carries the Lion of St Mark and the inscription 'ANTONIO BERVASS 1764'. It is a steep 10-15 minute walk up from the town or from Valtos. Entry hours and fees are not confirmed in these sources; go early or late to avoid the midday heat.
Best for
The essential walk ashore from a Valtos anchorage
