Parga Town & Valtos Bay (Parga)
39° 17.0′ N · 20° 23.4′ E
Parga is a stack of colourful houses under a Venetian castle on a headland. Yachts anchor in Valtos Bay on the west side of the castle, with a 3 km sweep of sand and pebble beach, and walk or water-taxi into town.
Practical
Moorings: no dockage for transient yachts in Parga town; anchor in Valtou (Valtos) Bay, with a small dock there where you can tie up if space permits. Dinghy ashore and walk about 15 minutes over the castle hill, or take a water taxi. mySea marks Valtos anchorages in about 5 m (this position, and 39.28030N 20.38914E). Parga's small harbour is in the west of Valtos Bay behind a breakwater: yachts lie with a long line on the east side of the breakwater in up to 6 m, shallow right at the wall, so go bows-to. The inner basin (about 100 m wide) has up to 2 m and is hard to manoeuvre in season. The high town quay and the jetty in the north of the bay are reserved for locals and ferries (mySea, 39.28192N 20.38816E). Facilities listed: water, gas bottles, ATM. The bay opens to the south, so check the forecast for southerlies before staying overnight.
