North Corfu Strait (Albania border)

39° 46.2′ N · 19° 58.2′ E · approximate

North-east Corfu sits barely a mile or two off the Albanian coast, and the Greek–Albanian sea border runs down the North Corfu Channel. Ferries to Sarandë and Igoumenitsa use the strait daily, and their wash rolls into every bay from Nissaki to Kassiopi.

Practical

Coordinate approx: the representative Straits of Corfu position from Wikipedia, off Agios Stefanos. Albanian territorial waters are close: monitor VHF 11, the Albanian Coast Guard's working channel, when near them (Noonsite). Going ashore or anchoring in Albania requires clearing in, normally through an agent (Noonsite). Ferries running the North Corfu Channel throw a considerable wash into these bays: if staying overnight, anchoring off with a long line ashore is safer than going stern-to a jetty (mySea safety note). Keep clear of the lit Serpa reef off the NE corner (SailingIssues). The 1946 Corfu Channel mine incident happened in these waters.
