Nafplio Town Quay & Bourtzi
37° 34.1′ N · 22° 47.7′ E
Med-moor under three Venetian fortresses: the town quay of Greece's first capital, with the island castle of Bourtzi floating off the bows and Palamidi lit up on its crag above the old town. The best-sheltered big-town stop in the Argolic Gulf and the base for Mycenae, Tiryns and Epidavros.
Practical
Coordinate is the centroid of the mapped harbour basin (OSM 'Harbor of Nafplio'). Enter south of Bourtzi on a 090° course (Sailing Issues). Moor stern- or bows-to, or alongside, on the long town quay; Sailing Issues says the central quay gives the best berths, especially in westerlies, and to ask the harbour master where to go (VHF 12 or 18). Sea-Seek: good protection but an uncomfortable chop in strong NW winds. Barbaros Yachting reports water and electricity on the quay and fuel by tanker; no current fee figure is published — verify locally. Weekend berths are hard to find in season. Summer breeze pattern: NW land breeze about 8pm–6am, SE sea breeze about 11am–10pm (Sailing Issues). Sea-Seek warns that sewage outfalls into the harbour can smell in summer heat. Supermarkets, bakeries, hospital and laundry are within a 10-minute walk (see separate entries). A new marina NE of the basin has been planned for years; Sailing Issues says completion has slipped toward 2028, and noted breakwater works in 2026. Caretta caretta turtles are seen in the harbour.
