The rocky peninsula and oldest fortress of Nafplio, walled since at least the 4th century BC and layered with Byzantine, Frankish and Venetian works. The plateau by the old clock tower is the town's sunset balcony.

Practical

Coordinate from Wikipedia/GeoHack. Free to wander; reach it on foot from the old town or via the stepped path up from Arvanitia Square (Visit Peloponnese). The seaward cliffs are a mapped climbing crag. The Venetians fortified Bourtzi as part of the same harbour-defence scheme.

Best for

Sunset walk ten minutes from the quay
