Loggerhead Turtles (Nafplio Harbour)

37° 34.1′ N · 22° 47.8′ E · approximate

Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) cruise the Nafplio harbour basin — Sailing Issues counted several during a 2026 visit — and are fed by fishermen at Monemvasia further south.

Practical

Coordinate approx: inside the Nafplio harbour basin near the town quay (see Nafplio Town Quay entry). Sailing Issues reports several Caretta caretta in the basin in 2026, and turtles round Monemvasia harbour where fishermen feed them. Go dead slow in the harbour, watch for heads at the surface, don't feed them, and never run a prop near a turtle. Injured or entangled turtle: call ARCHELON's 24-hour sea-turtle line, +30 6941 511 511. ARCHELON's Peloponnese nesting projects are on the west and south coasts (Kyparissia Bay, Koroni, Lakonikos Bay), not in the Argolic Gulf. No dolphin data for the gulf was found in our sources.
