Methana Thermal Springs
37° 34.5′ N · 23° 23.3′ E
Hot, milky, rotten-egg-smelling sulphur water flows straight into a rock-lined sea pool just outside Methana's old port, and you can swim in it for free. The historic spa building above is closed.
Practical
Navily (via 12knots) marks 'Methana Sulphur Springs' at 37.57539N 23.38824E. SailingIssues: the spa is closed, but you can still take a hot and malodorous bath outside the old port, west of the red light. Wikipedia's Methana article shows the sulphurous bath inside the sea; Medgulets describes the sulphurous hot springs by the baths of Loutropoli Methanon. A 2010 blog found the sulphur baths beside the harbour closed, so expect no facilities. Rinse off with fresh water afterwards. Avoid on hot, still days, when the hydrogen sulphide smell is strongest. OpenStreetMap maps the old 'Thermal baths of Methana' building at 37.57746N 23.38715E, just inland of the pool. Note that the charted harbour light just south (OSM seamark 'Methana', Fl G) is green on OpenSeaMap, so identify the pool by the spa building rather than by light colour.
