Methana Old Port (West)

37° 34.6′ N · 23° 23.3′ E

The small old harbour on the west side of Methana town, between the spa buildings and the Nisaki islet, packed with local boats on laid moorings and very well protected.

Practical

Navily (via 12knots) lists the old harbour as 'Methana' at 37.57717N 23.38875E. SailingIssues: usually filled with local yachts; the entrance has only 2.5 m (chart depth) over soft mud; use the laid moorings; excellent shelter; ropes rather than chain are used because the sulphurous water corrodes metal. A 2010 blog notes the narrow, shallow entrance between rocks, so enter slowly with an eye on the sounder. The hot sulphur pool is just outside, west of the red light. Methana's old spa is called Loutropoli Methanon (Medgulets).
