Kalamos Harbour (Kalamos)

38° 37.4′ N · 20° 55.9′ E

The friendly village harbour on the south-east side of mountainous Kalamos, ringed by pine woods under a 754 m peak and looking across to Kastos.

Practical

All-round protection except a strong sirocco (SE), which can occur in early spring (sailingissues.com); my-sea also flags NE as dangerous and warns of ferries and swell. The quay was strengthened with new paving and wave-dissipating blocks in 2025. Go stern-to the quay or breakwater, but bows-to where blocks protrude (the concave section, where crossed anchors are guaranteed); near the end boats go alongside and raft up. The southern side of the harbour is very shallow (under 1 m in places); set the anchor towards N-NE because of the prevailing wind and gusts (my-sea). George of George's restaurant runs the harbour, helps you moor and takes reservations; his place has three small showers at 3 euros, 2 WCs and a washing machine at 6 euros (sailingissues.com, 2026 edition). No water or electricity on the quay; the garbage container is no longer for passing boats. Severe NW-NE gusts can come down at night; the SW wind strengthens in the afternoon. Sailingissues waypoint (east of port): 38 37.152 N, 20 56.598 E; a reef is mentioned 045 degrees and 780 m from the light, 100 m off the coast, and C-Map shows a stone awash east of the port. Minimarket and a bakery by the harbour.
