Corinth Canal (east entrance)

37° 54.9′ N · 23° 0.6′ E · approximate

The dramatic 6.3 km cut through the Isthmus of Corinth, a slot 25 m wide between limestone walls up to 76 m high, opened in 1893. The eastern (Isthmia) end with its sinking bridge is where yachts dock, pay and wait for the call to go through.

Practical

Coordinate is approx: extrapolated from the Wikipedia canal midpoint (37.93472N 22.98389E) towards the OSM Isthmia bridge point (37.91618N 23.00846E) to the eastern mouth; locate the entrance on your chart. Noonsite: the entrance is hard to see from afar in the NW of Kenchreai bay; steer for the control tower, then the yellow-and-black barrier. Moor port-side-to on the south side of the tall concrete dock on stilts with plenty of fenders; yachts over 25 m request the pilot boat. Do the paperwork in the office on the lower level of the control tower; payment (if not done online) is at this eastern end in cash or by card (EUR, USD, GBP, CHF; POS over EUR 500 per the canal website). Customer service in Isthmia is open daily 8am-10pm. Status: the canal reopened to navigation on 17 June 2026 after restoration and slope-stabilisation closures (corinthcanal.com). Commercial department +30 27410 30880, sales@corinthcanal.com. Transit and fees: see the Corinth Canal passage.
