Astakos Harbour

38° 31.9′ N · 21° 4.8′ E

A small mainland town port at the head of a three-mile inlet, with a long breakwater, a fishing fleet and Echinades islets scattered off its entrance.

Practical

marinatips: yacht section about 30-40 m (room for about 6 boats) at the east end, 100 m from the breakwater root, 4.5-5 m with good mud holding; if full, go alongside the fishing/ferry quay (3.5 m) or anchor with an angled anchor; mooring rings are not to be trusted in heavy weather; port police strict, about 5 euros harbour dues for a 13 m yacht (verify locally). Good shelter from N-NE-NW but completely open to the south and untenable in strong southerlies (my-sea, marinatips). Trawlers come and go at night and make a wash; rock ballasting extends underwater in places; possible sewage smells in summer. Water, electricity, ATM, shops and tavernas; reefs around the Dhragonera islets at the entrance. Sailingissues.com suggests Astakos as a stop between Kastos and Ithaca.
