Sunken Pothaia ruins (Telendos channel)

36° 59.9′ N · 26° 55.5′ E · approximate

Kalymnos and Telendos were one island until earthquakes in the 6th century AD split them. Remains of ancient Pothaia lie on the channel seabed off the village and can be seen by divers.

Practical

Greeka notes the remains are visible to divers. The site lies in the busy water-taxi and ferry channel, so tow a dive flag and stay clear of traffic. Greek law protects underwater antiquities: never touch or remove anything, and go with a licensed local dive centre (see the Kalymnos dive centres) rather than independently. Approximate coordinate: channel just off Telendos village. The exact extent of the ruins wasn't verified.
