St Nicholas Fortress (Mandraki)

36° 27.1′ N · 28° 13.7′ E · approximate

The round stand-alone fort of 1464–67 at the tip of Mandraki's mole, built where a chapel of St Nicholas stood. You pass right under it entering the harbour, and it marks one of the candidate sites of the Colossus.

Practical

Position approx: Wikipedia's coordinate for the Colossus of Rhodes at the Mandraki entrance, beside the fortress. Greeka: marble fragments in its walls may have come from the Colossus pedestal (a hypothesis). Walk out along the windmill mole for the view back over the harbour and Old Town. Mandraki's entrance lights are hard to read against town lights at night.
